Hayavadana is a celebrated Indian play by Girish Karnad that blends myth, folklore, and philosophy into a witty, poignant exploration of identity and completeness. When Devdutta, a brilliant scholar, and Kapila, a powerful blacksmith’s son, both love the spirited Padmini, a divine twist leaves their heads and bodies exchanged—forcing everyone to question what truly defines a person. Interwoven with the comic tale of Hayavadana, a man with a horse’s head seeking to become fully human, the play is a timeless theatrical experience filled with humour, music, and profound questions about desire, friendship, and the self.
Perfect for lovers of classic Indian theatre, mythology, and thought-provoking drama.
