In February, Athens Land Trust broke ground on Hawthorne Extension, a residential community that sits on approximately 1.1 acres. We are putting the finishing touches on each house, with construction on the five single-family homes concluding in October. All five homes are EarthCraft-Certified and will be sold to first-time homeowners under the Community Land Trust model, which allows us to create homes that are beautiful, affordable, and energy efficient. We invite you to join us for an Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, November 6th, 2026, from 1 PM to 3 PM as we celebrate the completion of these homes with tours, refreshments, light bites, and a ribbon cutting ceremony to honor our “Hawthorne Heroes,” the families who will move into these homes immediately upon completion of construction. Their journey to homeownership reflects the purpose behind this development: creating opportunity, stability, and generational impact for families in our community.
This project is supported by $2.75 million in ARPA funding dedicated to the development of 10 homes, with additional support from Wells Fargo, Athens-Clarke County Housing and Community Development, First American Bank and Trust, and other community partners. Hawthorne Ext represents a significant investment in sustainable construction, quality housing, and long-term community growth.
No RSVP is necessary. Street parking will be available along Hawthorne Extension. For more information, please contact:
