Current Hawthornden Brooklyn writers-in-residence Sabrina Fountain, Anja Kampmann, Su-Yee Lin, Helen Betya Rubinstein, Elvia Wilk, Suzanne Wise and Jenny Tinghui Zhang will read and discuss their work.

Sabrina Fountain
Sabrina Fountain is a writer and literary translator from Italian to English. Her published or forthcoming translations include fiction works by Leonardo G. Luccone, Vitaliano Trevisan, and Ade Zeno, as well as museum publications for the Fondazione Ago, the Museo Storico del Trentino, and the Fondazione Modena Arti Visive. Her creative nonfiction has appeared in English in publications such as AGNI, DIAGRAM, and Tilted House Review, and in Italian in the Roman journal retabloid. She is an Assistant Editor of Poetry for Asymptote.
Anja Kampmann
Anja Kampmann studied at the University of Leipzig and the German Literature Institute. In 2011, she was a fellow of the International Writing Program in Iowa. Her poetry debut, Samples of Stone and Light, was published in 2016. Her novel High as the Waters Rise (2018) was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize and the German Book Prize and has been translated into six languages. It received several literature awards and the novel’s American translation, High as the Waters Rise (by Anne Posten), was a finalist for the 2020 National Book Award. Her poetry collection The Dog Is Always Hungry (2021) was awarded the Günter Kunert Prize for Poetry. Her German translation of Ilya Kaminsky's poetry collection Deaf Republic (2022), was praised for its linguistic precision and the sensitive rendering of the original text. In 2023, her play Haze - As If It Would All Come Back was performed at the Donaueschinger Musiktage with music by Elnaz Seyedi and the Ensemble Ascolta, further showcasing her interdisciplinary reach. Her second novel Rage is a Bright Star (2025) received the Hans Fallada Literature Prize as well as the Lessing Prize, it was No.1 of the SWR critics choice and received excellent reviews.
Su-Yee Lin
Su-Yee Lin is a writer from New York. Her writing has been published in The Offing, Day One, Electric Literature, Bennington Review, Strange Horizons, Tor.com, Quarterly West, Nashville Review, and other literary journals, and has been anthologized in the Pushcart Prize anthology and Best Small Fictions. She has received fellowships and residencies from the Fulbright foundation, the Center for Fiction, New York Foundation for the Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Hedgebrook, Willapa Bay AiR, Ucross, Crosstown Arts, Seoul Art Space, and others. She is a graduate of Brown University and the MFA program at UMass Amherst.
Helen Betya Rubinstein
Helen Betya Rubinstein is the author of Feels Like Trouble: Provocations on Writing, Teaching, & Power and The Case Against Rubinstein, forthcoming in 2026 and 2027. Her essays and fiction have appeared in Gulf Coast, The Kenyon Review, and frequently in Literary Hub and Jewish Currents, where she is a contributing writer. She teaches at The New School and works as a coach for other writers and scholars.
Elvia Wilk
Elvia Wilk is a writer and editor living in New York. She is the author of the novel Oval, the essay collection Death by Landscape, and a new novel, A Diagnosis, is forthcoming in 2026. She has written essays, criticism, and fiction for publications like Bookforum, 4Columns, n+1, Granta, The Paris Review online, The Nation, The Atlantic, WIRED, and The New York Review of Books. She's currently a contributing editor at e-flux journal and teaches writing in the MFA program at Sarah Lawrence.
Jenny Tinghui Zhang
Jenny Tinghui Zhang is the author of the novels Superfan and Four Treasures of the Sky, named an Idaho Book of the Year and short- and long-listed for the Chautauqua Prize, the Dublin Literary Award, the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award. Her work has appeared in the Cut, Foreign Policy, Texas Highways, and elsewhere. She is a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree and has received support from Yaddo, Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Kundiman, VONA, Tin House, and the University of Wyoming, where she completed her MFA.
