Have your say on Cornwall’s energy future
What could changes to the way Cornwall produces and uses energy mean for you, your family and your community?
From how we heat our homes and power our buildings, to how we travel and where our energy comes from, Cornwall is going to see significant changes in the years ahead.
This is your chance to be part of the conversation.
What is this about?
The Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) sets out how Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly could reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and make greater use of local resources such as solar, wind, geothermal and biomethane.
The plan looks at six areas, including electricity, heating and transport, while taking into account Cornwall's rural setting, our buildings, our current energy use and what energy we may need in the future.
Importantly, the LAEP suggests how things could be, not how they will be.
The Community Conversations taking place across Cornwall are an opportunity for local people to have their say on how these changes could affect their communities and to help influence how the plan is implemented.
What will we talk about?
This isn't a presentation where you need to sit and listen to experts talking about energy policy.
It's a facilitated conversation where ordinary local people can share their experiences, ideas, concerns and priorities.
We'll be asking what matters to people and communities when it comes to Cornwall's energy future, and what needs to be considered as the LAEP moves from a plan towards implementation.
You don't need to know anything about the LAEP or be involved in climate or energy issues to take part.
Whether you live in Bude, Poundstock, Crackington Haven, Stratton or one of the many surrounding communities, we'd like to hear your perspective.
Why does your contribution matter?
Community Conversations are taking place in communities across Cornwall, with previous conversations held in Penzance, Falmouth, Truro, St Austell, Saltash and Redruth.
The key points and priorities that come out of these conversations will be formally fed back to the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Climate Commission and Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Leadership Board, helping to inform the development and implementation of the LAEP.
So this isn't simply a chance to have a chat about energy. It's an opportunity to make sure the experiences and priorities of people in North Cornwall are part of the bigger conversation.
What to expect
12:30pm – Light lunch and refreshments
Come along, grab some food and a drink, and meet other people from across the local area.
1:00pm – Community Conversation begins
The Cornwall Climate Action Coalition will facilitate the conversation using a two-question format designed to give everyone an opportunity to contribute.
15:30pm – Finish
The key points and priorities from the conversation will be captured and fed into the wider Community Conversations programme.
The event is free to attend, and food and refreshments will be provided.
Everyone is welcome. You don't need to represent an organisation, belong to a campaign group or have any specialist knowledge.
