Haunted Hearts: Halloween Vintage Cake ClassStep into the darker side of vintage cake decorating in our Haunted Hearts Halloween Cake Class—a spooky-chic twist on our popular vintage heart cake!
In this hands-on class, students will transform a standard round cake into a beautifully decorated heart-shaped cake, then finish it with layers of ornate vintage (Lambeth-style) piping in a Halloween-inspired color palette.
The photos shown for this class feature the same vintage heart cake design in several different Halloween color combinations to give you a little inspiration—but your cake doesn’t have to match any one of them! Students will have the opportunity to choose their own color combination in class, making each finished cake completely unique.
Go cute and spooky, bold and colorful, dark and gothic, or somewhere in between. The piping techniques and overall design stay the same—you get to make the color palette your own.
And the best part? No specialty heart-shaped pan is required. You’ll learn how to use a template to carve a standard round cake into a heart, giving you a versatile cake-carving technique you can recreate at home for Halloween, Valentine’s Day, birthdays, or any occasion.
What You’ll Create
Each student will work with a two-layer cake that is torted into four layers, then filled, stacked, carved, and iced into a heart shape. From there, you’ll build your cake from the inside out—learning proper structure before finishing it with layers of beautiful vintage piping.
What You’ll Learn
• How to torte cake layers evenly and build a stable cake
• How to fill, stack, crumb coat, and apply a final smooth coat
• How to carve a heart-shaped cake using a template—no specialty pan needed!
• How to work with Swiss meringue buttercream

Piping & Design Focus: The Lambeth Method
Students will learn the fundamentals of vintage Lambeth-style piping—a timeless decorating method known for its beautifully ornate, layered designs.
This style involves building multiple layers of piping to create depth, texture, and dimension. While it can look intimidating, we’ll break each technique down step-by-step so you can understand how the individual elements come together to create the finished design.
You’ll learn:
• How to properly hold and control a pastry bag
• Pressure piping techniques and consistency control
• How to use piping tips at different angles to achieve different effects
• How to maintain even spacing and consistent piping
• How to layer piping techniques to create a cohesive finished design
