Join Historian Jared Frederick and Filmmaker Mark Frederick for Haunted Altoona: Murder & Mystery in Railroad City—a lantern-led walking tour exploring some of the most chilling, mysterious, and unforgettable chapters from Altoona’s past. Long before ghost stories became local legend, the newspapers of Railroad City were filled with accounts of accidents, fires, and shocking crimes. On this tour of Downtown Altoona, Dr. Jared Frederick will bring these events to life, visiting locations connected to the incidents and examining what really happened. Rather than relying on folklore or legend, the program draws directly from the historical record. Every stop is based on true accounts reported in newspapers of the time period. Come walk the streets of Railroad City and hear the horrifying stories behind the headlines!Tours are offered each night at both 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Check-in is inside Levity Brewing Company. Patrons are welcome to eat and drink at the establishment before and/or after their walking tour. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear proper footwear. The tour will take place rain or shine, unless conditions are deemed unsafe. In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the tour will be canceled or rescheduled. Participants will be contacted via email or social media if any changes are necessary. All attendees participate at their own risk.
