Harry G. Leslie was a West Lafayette native for whom a bridge and street in this community are named. And yet few know of the story of this young, service-minded leader in the community who went on to lead an eventful adult life of public service as Indiana Governor and a statesman of exceptional moral caliber. One event that forever changed young Harry Leslie’s life occurred on Halloween morning, 1903 when, through a series of whims of fate, an Indianapolis-bound Purdue football train on which he was riding had an accident that tragically ended 17 young lives. Join us in the Elm and Maple Rooms at the West Lafayette Public Library on Thursday (10/29) to hear Dr. Pete Bill share Harry G. Leslie’s remarkable story and the infamous 1903 Purdue Train Wreck. Enjoy some pizza with your local history as well, thanks to Arni's Restaurant!
