About the film
The film is set in 1940s Korea under Japanese colonial rule and follows Jung-won (played by Yoon Kye-sang) as he becomes involved in Mal-Mo-E, a project to collect and preserve the Korean language across the country.
Initially reluctant to participate, Jung-won gradually comes to recognize the importance of their native language and joins his colleagues in their efforts to protect it. Despite surveillance and oppression under Japanese rule, they support one another and discover hope through the power of language.
