Join us for the Opening Reception of two exhibitions on Thursday, August 27, from 5:30–7:30 PM at the Sumter County Gallery of Art: Twists and Turns Along the Path, a solo exhibition of sculptural basketry by Nolan Wright, and The September Issue, a group show featuring work by Vicki Hagner, Gardner Cole Miller, Tabitha Ott, and Mackenzie Sholtz.Both exhibits are part of Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026, a national, year-long collaboration among organizations, educators, and makers to celebrate the diversity of the crafts that define America, showcasing the importance of the handmade.
Guests are invited to experience both exhibitions, celebrate the participating artists, and discover the enduring importance of craft in American art and culture, highlighting the many ways artists transform materials through handwork, craftsmanship, and creative expression.From time-honored techniques to contemporary interpretations, the works on view invite visitors to consider the stories, processes, and personal connections embedded in objects made by hand.
The exhibitions are supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, South Carolina Arts Commission, Sumter County, Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust, the SC 250th Commission with flowers courtesy of the Azalea Garden Club.
