Five stations. One big idea: math is something you can build. This Pi Day, we’re taking a familiar object apart to find the mathematics inside it. Each station is one layer of a mathematical pie, and each layer is a different way of thinking. Complete a station to earn that layer, then assemble everything into your own Pi Pie, a finished model showing all the math you explored. NOTE: This is a math experience, not a food event, so nothing here is edible.
Every pie is secretly a lesson in mathematics: the circle of the crust, the slices that divide it, the filling that takes up space, the pattern on top. At Building a Mathematical Pie (Pi), you’ll take a familiar object apart and discover the ideas hiding inside it.
Move through a series of interactive stations, each one a layer of the pie and each one a different mathematical concept. Complete a station, earn that layer, and see how the pieces connect. By the end, you’ll assemble your own Pi Pie, a finished model showing all the math that goes into one.
No experience required, and no oven needed. Every pie is different, just like mathematical thinking. There’s no single right way to approach math, and here you’ll see that math is creative and constructed, not just memorized.
Free. Hands-on. No experience required. March 14. Come curious. Build something. Leave with a whole new way to see a circle.
