🎶 HANDPAN FOR BEGINNERS: AN INTRODUCTORY CLASS IN ENGLISHHave you never played a musical instrument before? That’s absolutely fine! You can discover the handpan completely from scratch. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
On November 18 at 18:30, I’m inviting you to a 2-hour beginner handpan class in Vilnius, held in English and designed especially for those who are just starting to discover this beautiful instrument.
We’ll meet in a small group of up to 7 people and explore the handpan together: its sound, first playing techniques, simple rhythms and melodies, and, little by little, the freedom of improvisation.
You don’t need to read music.
You don’t need any musical background.
You don’t need to own a handpan.
You simply need to come, sit down, and give it a try.
🎵 WHAT WILL WE DO DURING THE CLASS?
• Get to know the handpan and discover its sound
• Learn the basic playing techniques
• Develop hand memory and movement accuracy
• Try your first rhythms and melodies
• Learn how to connect sounds and create your own music
• Explore improvisation and play together with others
The class is not only about repeating what I show you. I’ll help you understand how to practise and how to learn the instrument, so that you can gradually develop your own natural way of playing.
🌿 NEVER PLAYED AN INSTRUMENT BEFORE?
Then this class is especially for you.
People discover handpan in very different ways. Some have been listening to handpan music for years and have always wanted to try it themselves. Others have only recently seen one at a festival, event or online. And some have been thinking about learning music for a long time but feel that music is simply “not for them”.
Handpan can be a very intuitive way to start.
You don’t need to know musical notation or understand scales before your first class. You can simply touch the instrument and start listening to what happens.
Of course, not every sound will be perfect from the beginning. That’s completely normal. We’ll explore, listen, experiment and gradually find your own way of playing.
And yes, even during your very first lesson, you can already create music.
✨ WHAT IS A HANDPAN?
The handpan is a melodic percussion instrument with a distinctive, warm and captivating sound. It has also gained popularity as a meditative instrument and a tool for relaxation.
One of the beautiful things about it is that you can discover rhythms and melodies from your very first interactions with the instrument. And the more you learn, the more possibilities open up.
For me, handpan became an instrument that completely changed my relationship with music. That is why I wanted to create a space in Lithuania where people can slow down, explore the instrument and discover whether handpan could become their own form of musical expression.

All instruments will be provided.
We’ll play high-quality D Kurd handpans, so there is nothing you need to buy or bring with you.
The class will take place with a minimum of 3 participants.

You’re very welcome to!
I regularly organise group classes, longer courses, intensive workshops, retreats and other handpan events in Vilnius and Kaunas, and occasionally in other cities as well.

I’m Tavija, a handpan performer, teacher and the founder of Lietuvos Handpan Akademija.
