The Church of St. John the Divine
One-time event | No registration | No fee
Join St. John the Divine and Friends of Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, for "Handel in Concert and Theology", an evening of Handel’s music sung by the St. John the Divine Chorale and soloists, led by Steven Newberry, Director of Music, and interpreted by the Rev. Dr. Michael Lloyd, Principal at Wycliffe Hall.
George Frideric Handel, born in Germany in 1685, died in London in 1759. Handel became one of the most successful composers of the early 18th century, composing operas, instrumental works, and oratorios, most famously Messiah (1741).
The Rev. Dr. Michael Lloyd, Principal at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, drags his long-suffering wife to all of Handel’s operas! Lloyd will offer a commentary (at times witty) on the pieces to be sung from Handel’s repertoire.
