About this Event
We have partnered with Jesline Kirubajinie to bring you a wonderful handblock printing workshop. Jesline’s story began in Sri Lanka. With her family, she emigrated from the war-torn country in the 90s and it led her to the USA and finally to the UK where she, a mother-of-three, is looking to introduce a little Eastern flair to a Western audience.
Over the course of this 3 hour workshop, you’ll learn how to print fabric using beautifully hand-carved wooden blocks, each one crafted by skilled artisans. This is a slow and intentional process: dipping the block into vibrant paint, carefully pressing your design onto the fabric, and watching your creation come to life, one print at a time.
What You’ll Experience:
Jesline will begin with a short demonstration to walk you through the process, how to apply the paint, align your block, and press with intention. You’ll start by printing on scrap fabric until you feel confident and comfortable. It’s all about finding your rhythm and enjoying the process.
Once you’re ready, you’ll choose from Jesline’s carefully curated collection of over 100 blocks, featuring a mix of traditional Indian motifs and contemporary designs to print your own custom tea towel to take home, a unique, handmade piece perfect as a gift or keepsake.
Why It’s Special:
This isn’t just about learning a technique, it’s about taking time for yourself. It’s about slowing down, getting into a creative flow, and finding joy in the tactile, repetitive, meditative nature of block printing. Each print you make is one-of-a-kind, a reflection of your hands, your choices, and your moment of stillness.
