🎨 HAND SELF-PORTRAIT PAINTING WORKSHOP 🎨Four days. Your hands. Your story. Your painting.
Join us at Artisan Albuquerque for an immersive four-day, in-person oil painting workshop focused on one of the most expressive—and challenging—subjects an artist can paint: the human hand.
📅 December 10–13, 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM–4:00 PM daily
📍 Artisan Albuquerque
3017 Monte Vista Blvd NE
Albuquerque, NM 87106
✨ FOR ALL LEVELS
Color. Structure. Value. Anatomy. Brushwork. Each plays an essential role in creating a convincing, lifelike hand.
On the first day, each participant’s hands will be professionally photographed for personalized reference images to work from throughout the workshop. From there, you’ll explore the anatomy and underlying bone structure of the hand before moving into the painting process.
Over four days, you’ll dive into:
🖐️ Hand anatomy and structure
🎨 Dynamic and believable skin tones
🌗 Accurate values and dimensional form
🖌️ Intentional brushwork and mark-making
🎨 Color mixing and subtle temperature shifts
✨ The details that give hands realism, character, and life
Each day includes in-depth live painting demonstrations, taking you step-by-step through the process while exploring the decisions behind color, value, edges, and brushwork.
You’ll also receive plenty of time for individualized feedback, questions, and hands-on guidance as your own painting develops.
🎨 Oil paint is provided for students.
Students will need to bring the remaining materials from the workshop supply list. Easels, tables, chairs, and paper towels are provided.
Whether you’re developing your figurative painting skills or challenging yourself with a subject artists have studied for centuries, this four-day experience is an opportunity to slow down, study deeply, and create something uniquely personal.
✨ Space is limited for this intensive workshop.
