Welcome to the Hamptons Black Film, Art & Culture Series! Presented by the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center at Bay Street Theatre & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts, this special series uses film and art as a starting point for meaningful conversations about issues impacting our communities.
Through inspiring films, panel discussions, and community dialogue, we will explore serious and important topics including caregiving for seniors, domestic abuse, housing inequity, and other issues affecting all families and communities.
We invite you to join us for an evening of storytelling, awareness, and conversation designed to bring people together, encourage greater understanding, and create space for meaningful dialogue. Refreshments will be served.
Men of Courage takes the viewer on a journey inside the Garden State of New Jersey for a fly-on-the-wall experience as five black and Latino men engage in compelling conversations with other boys and men about the role they play in ending violence against women. Directed by Byron Hurt
Following the screening, Men of Courage comes into focus through a thought-provoking Q&A with a panel of special guests, including filmmaker Byron Hurt and Wil Dubose of the NJ Coalition to End Domestic Violence, both featured in the film.
FLOWER is a 30-minute experimental narrative short film starring and produced by world-renowned ballerina, author, and advocate Misty Copeland in her first independently produced film. Blending dance, drama, and original music by Grammy-winning recording artist Raphael Saadiq, the film uses movement and music in place of dialogue to tell one caregiver’s story of the affordability crisis in Oakland, California—a crisis that has since spread across the country. Directed by Lauren Finerman
Following the screening, there will be a thought-provoking Q&A with a panel of special guests, including filmmaker Lauren Finnerman exploring the powerful connections between caregiving, generations, and the affordability challenges shaping our communities.
