An afternoon of networking with a chance to see items from the Hallé Archive up close including our newly acquired Edward Elgar collection.
About this Event

Join us for our first artist networking social at the Hallé Archive.

If you are an artist interested in working with archival objects from one of Manchester's oldest musical institutions we'd love to meet you and learn about your artistic practice.

Our team of Archivists and Community Producer at the Hallé would like to meet artists from all artforms and working with a variety of mediums. All are welcome to attend, not just musicians and sound artists but visual artists, writers, sculptors, film makers or performance artists.

Maybe you already have a project in mind and would like to see what items exist in our collection. Or perhaps you are looking for inspiration and would like to hear about the stories of people who shaped Manchester's musical heritage. Either way it's a great chance to meet our team and discuss further research sessions or collaborations.

You can come for the full duration of the networking afternoon or pop in for a short while. Feel free to bring portfolios and examples of your work too.

The Hallé team will bring a selection of objects and documents from the Hallé archive, including our recently acquired Edward Elgar archive from Arthur Reynolds for you to look through. We will also demonstrate our one of a kind digital repertoire database which is a goldmine of information on where, when and what the Hallé have performed over the centuries.

As we are interested in meeting artists who we could commission to deliver creative workshops as part of our Hallé Art Club, we will also bring examples of items from the archive which can be recycled in to workshop materials, for example old sheets of music.

The purpose of the networking event is for the team at the Hallé archive to get an understanding of which artists are working with heritage to inspire and tell stories of Manchester's musical heritage. Our hope is to broaden our knowledge of who is out there and who we could work with on commissions and events in the future.
