Put on your best trail-safe Halloween costume and join us for a fun-filled day at High Falls State Park! We’ll enjoy a scenic group hike followed by a costume contest for adults, children, and groups, then finish the celebration with trunk or treat! 👻🥾🏆🍬

🚨 EVENTBRITE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!

Selecting “Going” on Facebook does not register you for this event. Every participating adult and minor must be registered through Eventbrite before attending.

All adults must complete a waiver before the event. A parent or legal guardian must complete a waiver for every participating minor. All minors must remain accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian throughout the entire event.


DIRECTIONS TO THE MEETING AREA

The address above will bring you to High Falls State Park.

After entering the park, continue across the bridge. Once you cross the bridge, take the second turn into the parking lot across from the Visitor Center. The parking lot is near the playground area and Pavilion 1.

🚨 WE ARE NOT MEETING IN THE VISITOR CENTER PARKING LOT.

Look for the WE OUTSIDE GA event check-in area near Pavilion 1.

Please arrive by 9:30 AM to:

• Check in with our team• Confirm your registration and completed waiver• Receive your event wristband• Join your hiking group

Check-in is required. Your wristband lets our team know that you are registered to participate in the hike, costume contest, and trunk or treat.

PARKING INFORMATION

A Georgia State Parks ParkPass is required for every vehicle entering High Falls State Park.

If you do not already have a ParkPass, a $10 parking fee is required. You can purchase a pass online through the Georgia State Parks website:

You may also purchase a ParkPass at the park, subject to availability. Please have your parking pass or payment ready when you arrive.

TRAIL INFORMATION

The High Falls Trail is a 1.2-mile natural-surface loop rated moderate. It has approximately 150 feet of elevation gain.

The trail includes:

• Rocks and exposed roots• Boulders and uneven ground• Short inclines and declines• Natural surfaces that may become slippery when wet

The trail follows the Towaliga River and offers several views of the falls and whitewater. Participants must remain on the marked trail and should never walk or climb on the river rocks.

Please wear closed-toe hiking shoes or sturdy athletic shoes with good traction. Participants should be prepared to hike at a comfortable group pace.

PREPARING FOR THE HIKE

Although this is a shorter hike, everyone should prepare properly.

• Begin hydrating the night before the event.• Eat a balanced and nourishing meal the night before.• Eat a healthy breakfast before arriving.• Bring water, electrolytes, and a light snack.• Check the weather and dress appropriately.• Know your physical limits and do not push yourself beyond what feels safe.• Tell an event leader if you feel unwell, need assistance, or need to stop.• Parents and guardians are responsible for determining whether their children can safely complete the hike.

THE 10 HIKING ESSENTIALS

Participants are encouraged to learn about and carry the 10 hiking essentials appropriate for the trail and weather:

  1. Navigation, such as a downloaded trail map
  2. Sun protection
  3. Extra clothing or rain protection
  4. A headlamp or flashlight
  5. First-aid supplies
  6. A knife or emergency repair tool
  7. Emergency fire-starting supplies
  8. Emergency shelter
  9. Extra food
  10. Extra water and electrolytes

Your supplies should be lightweight, packed securely, and appropriate for this event.

TRAIL-SAFE COSTUMES

Costumes are encouraged, but anything worn during the hike must be trail-safe.

Please make sure your costume:

• Does not drag on the ground• Does not block your vision• Does not restrict your movement• Does not include sharp or dangerous props• Does not have loose pieces that could become caught on branches or roots• Allows you to walk safely over rocks, roots, and uneven terrain

Leave No Trace principles will be followed. Costume pieces, decorations, candy wrappers, and other items must not be left on the trail or anywhere in the park.

COSTUME CONTEST

The costume contest will take place after the hike and include the following categories:

TRUNK OR TREAT

Registered participants are invited to join us for trunk or treat after the hike and costume contest.

Children must remain with their parent or legal guardian. Parents and guardians are responsible for checking all candy and treats before allowing children to eat them, especially when allergies, dietary restrictions, medical conditions, or other concerns are involved.

• Water• Electrolytes• A light snack• Hiking essentials appropriate for the event• Closed-toe hiking shoes or sturdy athletic shoes• A trail-safe costume• Weather-appropriate clothing• Sunscreen and bug spray, if needed• Any personal Medic*tion you may require• Your Eventbrite registration confirmation• Your Georgia State Parks ParkPass or $10 parking fee

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

• Eventbrite registration and completed waivers are required.• Facebook RSVPs do not count as registration.• Every participating adult and minor must be registered.• Check-in and an event wristband are required.• Stay with the group and remain on the marked trail.• Follow all park rules and instructions from event leaders.• Know your physical limits and do not participate beyond your abilities.• The event may be modified, postponed, or canceled because of severe weather, unsafe trail conditions, park closures, or circumstances beyond the organizers’ control. Updates will be shared with registered participants.

PARTICIPATION AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK NOTICE

Hiking and other outdoor activities involve inherent risks, including falls, physical exertion, rocks, roots, uneven or slippery terrain, insects, wildlife, plants, changing weather, proximity to water, and the actions of other participants.

By registering for and attending this event, participants acknowledge these risks and accept responsibility for determining whether they and any minors in their care are physically able, properly equipped, and adequately prepared to participate.

Participants agree to follow park rules, remain on marked trails, follow safety instructions from event leaders, wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and immediately report any injury, illness, unsafe condition, or need for assistance.

Parents and legal guardians are responsible for continuously supervising their minors and determining whether candy and treats are safe based on allergies, dietary restrictions, medical conditions, or other individual needs.

Participation is voluntary. A completed participant waiver is required before the event. This notice does not replace the required adult or minor waiver. Anyone who has not completed the required registration and waiver will not be permitted to participate with the group.
