In modern times, Halloween has largely evolved into a secular, playful celebration centered on costumes and candy. In cultures around the world, however, this seasonal holiday is observed with greater solemnity and a deeper focus on remembrance. DΓa de los Muertos (also known as the Day of the Dead), is a Mexican holiday rooted in Indigenous Mesoamerican rituals, welcoming deceased relatives back for a festive reunion. Similarly, Samhain originated as an ancient Celtic fire festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of a new year. Communities gathered around bonfires and wore costumes to disguise themselves from wandering spirits as this was believed to be the time of year when the veil between this world and the next was especially thin. People also left out food and other treats to keep their ancestors happy and avoid any unnecessary confrontations. The Christian church later superimposed All Saint’s Day and All Souls' Day onto these older pagan dates to honor the dead through prayer and remembrance. Some Day of the Dead celebrations today are blended with Spanish Catholic traditions.
In honoring these seasonal celebrations, gather with us around the fire for a soulful Halloween celebration honoring those who came before us, exploring ancestral wisdom, and embracing the magic of transformation. Note: You do not need to hold any specific religious or spiritual beliefs to benefit from our Halloween event.
✨ Our evening will include:
πŸ¦… Opening and protecting our space with animal guardians.
πŸ•―οΈ Creating a community ancestral altar to honor and remember our ancestors.
🌿 Opening to ancestral wisdom through a guided meditation.
πŸ”₯ A shamanic-inspired ancestral clearing to release old patterns and make space for renewal.
🍫 Gathering around the fire to celebrate the season with sweet treats and s’mores!
Come as you are (or in costume), bring an open heart and mind, and join us in creating a sacred safe space with nature for remembrance, connection, reflection, healing, and celebration. Let’s honor the past, transform the present, and welcome the magic of what’s to come.
