If you have a JBL speaker with Auracast (the triangle symbol not the figure eight looking symbol) you can bring it and pair along with the main system so that you have music on your bike with you.
Critical Mass started back in 1992 with roots as a movement to challenge the car centric, fossil fuels dependence, traffic congestion created by large, single occupancy vehicles. it was also seen as a way of traveling more safely as a large group. it is a global movement that meets around the world on the last Friday of the month usually between 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
most cities have a specific time and location that people meet so that it is not organized as it has turned into being a protest movement that in some cities has shut down major roadways or Bridges. in Kamloops we choose not to be as confrontational in our approach but rather meet as a group and safely navigate the city along roadways and cycling infrastructure.
It is great for people who want to build their confidence commuting on a bicycle with the safety of a group. these are not intended to be organized events but sometimes people step up and plan ice cream stops or other things along the way.
I thought adding music might be a great way to get seen by motorists in an on-confrontational way and to create a fun environment that draws more people out. I will be showing up with music but I am not an organizer (because there are none) of Critical Mass specifically.
Here’s the main issue at hand: bicycles simply lack the mass to compete with cars on the road. The cyclist movement Critical Mass is trying to change that.
