Half term in the woods. There really is nothing quite like it. This walk is designed for the whole family - a chance to slow down together, step into a beautiful West Sussex forest, and discover the extraordinary world of wild fungi. Children and adults find it equally magical.

I'm Adi. I've been foraging since I was a teenager, and 46 years on, introducing people to the forest for the first time is still one of my greatest pleasures. I'm a member of the Association of Foragers, a trained educator (PhD, Goldsmiths University of London; MSc with Distinction), and the founder of the South London Mushroom Club. I bring the same care to every walk that I brought to 15+ years of university teaching. I am fully DBS checked, and I worked as a registered social worker until 2024 - so I bring professional safeguarding awareness and experience with families to everything I do.

We'll start with a short, hands-on introduction - did you know mushrooms are neither plants nor animals? They belong to a completely different kingdom. Then we'll spend around 3 hours exploring together: learning to spot edible mushrooms, understanding the forest ecosystem, and discovering some of the remarkable science of fungi - including the underground networks that connect trees and share nutrients across the forest floor.

This walk is ideal for families with children aged 5 and up. No foraging experience needed - just comfortable clothes, walking boots, and a sense of adventure.

What to bring: wear walking boots or wellies (it might be wet and muddy), long sleeves and trousers (we might walk through brambles) and waterproofs (it may well rain). Bring a basket or cloth bag, a pocketknife, and - if you have one - a mushroom guide book. And of course, don't forget to bring snacks and water or tea.

Ticket options: Adult (£45) / Child 5-15 (£20) / Under 5s (free) / Family - 2 adults + 2 children (£110).

Groups capped at 12 people total. Meeting point sent one week before. Around 1 hour 15 minutes from SE London by car, or train and cab. WhatsApp group for car sharing and continued learning.

Please cancel at least 7 calendar days before your walk so I can offer your place to another mushroom enthusiast. To cancel, email [email protected]. Refunds (notwithstanding third-party providers' own policies):

0–6 days' notice: no refund, but you can rebook another walk if a place is available.
7–13 days' notice: a partial refund, minus any booking fees incurred through third-party platforms. Alternatively, you can rebook another walk if a place is available.
14 days' or more notice: a full refund , minus non-refundable booking fees. Alternatively, you can rebook another walk if a place is available.

If Adi's Urban Mushrooms cancels or changes the date: I'll offer a full refund, or a rebooking on another walk if a place is available.
