Lead singer, co-songwriter and lyricist with Marillion since 1989, Steve Hogarth – “h” – returns to the stage alone for one of his wonderfully intimate h Natural shows.Away from the scale and structure of Marillion, h Natural strips everything back to its bare bones: one man, a piano, a voice, stories and an audience.
Alongside reimagined songs from his extensive Marillion catalogue, h dips into music that has meant something to him personally, with past shows featuring songs by Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, The Beatles, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, ABBA, Glen Campbell, Kraftwerk, Crowded House and many more.
No two evenings are quite the same. Songs are chosen in the moment, requests sometimes find their way into the set, questions are encouraged and stories, diary readings and conversation can take the evening in completely unexpected directions.
As h himself describes it:
“Working alone is a chance for intimacy, tenderness and spontaneity… a more volatile and audience-influenced performance.”
Since joining Marillion, Hogarth has become the voice of one of Britain’s most enduring progressive rock bands, with their most recent studio album An Hour Before It’s Dark reaching No.2 in the UK Albums Chart. Outside Marillion he has collaborated with artists including Richard Barbieri, Gleb Kolyadin and legendary producer Trevor Horn.
h Natural is a rare opportunity to experience one of Britain’s most distinctive voices up close, unguarded and wonderfully unpredictable.
