About this Event
BLUESTEM JAZZ
"Cortiñas is a highly musical and grooving drummer, as well as a laudable composer... his music is surprisingly danceable...groove-shifter, high-energy precision soloing, framed by vivid ideas. A joyful meeting of mind and spirit".
“Cortiñas' music is uplifting, robust, melodic, and gets your body moving; it's an exciting blend of the artist's musical influences from jazz and Latin America, including his native Mexico.
“Cortiñas’ music is bluesy and deeply felt..sometimes it is raucus, sometimes solemn, but the music is always drenched in emotion.
“One of Chicago’s most imaginative and exciting composers.”AllAboutJazz
“Chicago composer and drummer Gustavo Cortinas is a musician with a message, one of social justice. He delivers it in a style that fuses the melodic sensibilities of his ancestral Mexico with the complex syncopations of jazz.” ALLABOUTJAZZ
“His music has a timeless feel, and borderless, placeless presence, and I mean that in the ideal sense of those phrases. It is quite simply exquisite and powerful music”. SideBar BlueStemJazz
