Come slow down, dig your toes into the sand, and experience the Gulf Coast through the eyes of a young naturalist.
Created by local folk herbalist and educator The Healing Table, this hands-on field experience invites children and families to explore the beauty, science, and wonder of our local coastline while discovering one of nature's oldest gifts... sea salt.
Together, we'll wander the shoreline, observe the incredible life that calls our Gulf home, collect seawater, and uncover the fascinating journey from ocean water to handcrafted sea salt. Along the way, we'll explore marine ecology, ocean minerals, the water cycle, and the centuries-old tradition of salt harvesting while encouraging curiosity, observation, and a deeper connection with the natural world.
Back at our outdoor learning space, each young naturalist will filter seawater, explore every stage of the salt-making process, decorate a keepsake sea salt jar, complete a Gulf Coast Field Journal, and earn a Junior Gulf Coast Salt Maker Certificate to celebrate their adventure.
This isn't just a science lesson. It's an opportunity to slow down, ask questions, learn with your hands, and discover that some of life's greatest lessons begin in nature.
Whether you're part of a homeschool community or simply raising a child who loves exploring the outdoors, this experience is designed to spark curiosity, inspire stewardship of our beautiful Gulf Coast, and create memories that will last long after the salt comes home.
