About this Event

Guitar Festival at the Library 2026

Guitars will fill the National Library Building this June school holidays as the Guitar Festival at the Library 2026 brings two days of world-class performances, family-friendly storytelling, hands-on learning, and a community celebration of one of the world's most beloved instruments.

Presented by Toa Payoh Guitar Club in collaboration with the Singapore Classical Guitar Community, the festival is designed to welcome everyone — curious families, aspiring musicians, serious performers, and seasoned enthusiasts alike. All events are free and open to the public.
DAY 1: SATURDAY 13 JUNE | 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

11:00 AM | Masterclass Observation with Dr. Stephen Mattingly | Level 5 Imagination Room Internationally acclaimed guitarist Dr. Stephen Mattingly leads a two-hour masterclass with promising local classical guitarists. Members of the public are invited to observe as high-level technique, interpretation, and musicianship are explored in real time — a rare window into the world of serious guitar study.

1:30 PM | Music & Storytelling with Jennifer Leong | Level 1 Foyer Local poet Jennifer Leong breathes new life into beloved children's classics The Story of Ferdinand and The Velveteen Rabbit, accompanied by a live guitar trio. Suitable for children aged 3 and above.

3:00 PM | Solo Recital by Dr. Stephen Mattingly | Level 1 Foyer Dr. Mattingly returns for a solo recital drawing on the classical guitar's extraordinary range in the open, resonant acoustics of the library foyer.

4:30 PM – 6:00 PM | TPGC Ensemble Showcase | Level 1 Foyer Toa Payoh Guitar Club presents a 90-minute concert exploring love in all its forms — from tender romance to family warmth to love for nature — through jazz, contemporary pieces, duets, small ensembles, and the full niibori guitar orchestra, with guest performers from Re:String Guitar Ensemble.
