“Sculpting the Body, Sculpting the Self”A Workshop on Clay Body Mapping
Free, all materials provided. Spaces limited, please RSVP at the ticket link.
In this workshop, Dr. Elledge invites participants to join in a clay body mapping session where we will sculpt representations of our bodies. Rather than precision, the practice emphasizes creativity, play, and reflection. This act requires profound attention to the body and its wisdom. This workshop provides space for participants to engage compassionately with their bodies: to lean into softness, tenderness, and warmth. In doing so, we will reflect on embodied feelings of belonging and exclusion to better understand our experiences of space and place.

Her current project examines the weight-inclusive wellness industry in North Carolina’s Research Triangle emphasizing fat people’s identity formation and place-making practices. More broadly, her work engages feminist and crip/queer theory, qualitative methods, and place-based research to understand the everyday production of the ideal citizen in the United States. She received her Ph.D. in the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
