Guardianship & Alternatives for Older Adults: Decisions, Dignity & Choice
If you work with older adults, people with cognitive impairment, caregivers, or families navigating difficult decisions, this is a conversation you’ll want to be part of.
For one day, we’re bringing together perspectives that are rarely in the same room at the same time:
• Dr. John Stoukides — Capacity & Decision-Making
• Disability Rights Rhode Island — Supported Decision-Making
• Attorney Steve Bagian, RI Legal Services — Guardianship, POAs & Alternatives
• Probate Judge Tracy Loignon — What Probate Courts Need from the Community
• Sheila DiVincenzo, Office of Healthy Aging — When There Is No One to Serve
• Lori Light, State Long-Term Care Ombudsman — Resident Rights & Autonomy
• Meg Clingham, Esq., RI Mental Health Advocate — Mental Health, Rights & Guardianship
• Gerald Mirabile, Social Security Administration — Representative Payees
• Veterans Benefits Administration — VA Fiduciary Oversight
• Deb Burton, MS, RI Elder Info — What Rhode Island’s Guardianship Data Tells Us & Where We Go Next
We’ll look beyond simply asking, “Does this person need a guardian?” and explore capacity, individual rights, less restrictive alternatives, Supported Decision-Making, legal authority, and what happens when someone has no appropriate person available to help.
Tickets are $75 per person. Space is limited.
