This participatory workshop is a gentle prelude to the Deep Roots Music Festival. Together we’ll practice listening and connection in community, supported by fresh air, birdsong, and trees. The purpose of this experience is to provide meaningful connection in a community setting so we can all grow our capacity for belonging and interconnectedness.
You must pre-register to attend.
What to expect:
This experience includes a guided grounding practice, sharing in response to a prompt, and guided empathetic listening in whole-group (up to 15 people) and small-group (3–4 people) settings.
Participation is flexible—you may quietly observe, share with the group, or practice the skills of empathetic listening. There is no pressure to share anything personal or sensitive; you choose what and how much to share. Time limits will be used so everyone who wishes to speak can be heard and we can practice mindful communication.
If you shy away from community gatherings, this facilitated experience will provide the guidance, choice and structure needed to participate at the level that works for you.
We will gather outside in the Botanical Gardens. Please bring a folding chair and anything else you need for outdoor comfort. In case of drizzle or light rain, we will meet under cover, though small group activities may step outside, so please bring an umbrella or raincoat.
🚽 Bathrooms: The KC Irving building has fully accessible gender-neutral and gendered bathrooms near the main entrance.
🚗 Parking: Accessible parking spaces are located directly across from University Avenue.
🧑🦽 Garden Ramps: The indoor facilities and main outer paths have gentle slopes and are fully accessible for wheelchairs.
