Group public walk - Friday 27 November at 11amCroft Castle to Aymestrey - 7.4 miles (11.9km) - grade 3/5
This circular route starts off in a beautiful 18th ornamental landscaped valley, before heading up to an iron age fort before descending down through shady woods and open commonland to the pretty village of Aymestrey. After stopping for a drink or lunch at the wonderful gastro pub (The Riverside) we then head back in time for a scone at the National Trust cafe at Croft Castle - you will have earned it!
You may see a wide range of birdlife including woodpeckers, red kites and buzzards as well as butterflies and possibly some red or fallow deer. You will learn about the flora and fauna you see along the way and the history and folklore of the surrounding area.
It's graded three and requires a reasonable level of fitness. The initial climb up to the fort is quite a long sretch of uphill but is not too steep and there is a fairly steep section going downhill as you enter Aymestrey. As usual we take it at the rate of the slowest and stop frequently, if neccesary.
Our guided walks are deliberately kept small - with a maximum of six participants - giving you a more personal, relaxed and exclusive countryside experience.
