About this Event
What do the experts at the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability actually do? Why do they do it? Who benefits? Find out at Grounds for Conversation, a monthly coffee hour open to all Duke students.
The third installment in our series on Friday, November 20, will feature Sandeep Pai (see full bio), senior lead for international energy transitions and executive in residence at the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability at Duke University and The James E. Rogers Energy Access Project at Duke.
He’ll discuss the growing importance of critical minerals for the energy transition, energy transitions in emerging economies, and just transitions. He will also discuss what it takes to conduct impactful applied research, translate research into policy change, and bridge the gap between evidence, policy, and implementation.
On his own time, Pai co-hosts The India Energy Hour, a popular podcast focused on India’s energy transition. The show is available on all major platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts.
Here’s what to expect:

- Answers to your questions about the Nicholas Institute’s work
- Your morning coffee or tea (and light snacks)
