About this Event

Back again with the next iteration of the series, expect house and techno vibes, but know that what you're dancing to all original and being performed live.

------

d.send (Alex Wrathell) creates live machine funk using a clever collection of synthesizers and sequencers. A long-time electronic music and dancefloor enthusiast, he brings a deep love for groove and an extensive history with rhythm to each track assembled. Their influences come from all directions, blending hints of electro, techno, breakbeat and jersey club into continuously evolving live sets. For Groovebox 5, they will explore a more experimental and improvised approach to their live track construction.

Gear used: Akai Force, Elektron Digitone II, Moog Minitaur, and Audiothingies Micromonsta2

------

G.Roy (Galen Conroy) has been a figure in the underground House music scene for the past 15 years and is the founder of Groovebox. Most recently, he headlined Houseworx in Victoria, BC, and played the renowned Body Language festival in Petite Rivière, NS.

His live performance consists of small fragments of his favourite original productions, spontaneously arranged, resulting in live remixing. Expect the classic sounds of House, from deep to garage to jackin.

He has released tracks with renowned labels like Quantize Recordings, Phoenix Soul, Bobbin Head, and DJ Heather’s Apollo Music Group, and collaborated with notable singers such as Rona Ray and Lee Wilson.

Gear used: Ableton Live 12, Akai APC40

------

DYODE is Adam McLellan (Snug) and Dan Thomas, a live techno duo born of a desire to return to the genre’s visceral roots where hardware meets raw intuition.

The DYODE project trades predictable structures for a high-stakes exploration of modular tension and improvisational risk. The duo have been DJing and performing live electronic music individually since the late 90s, between them having played many of the major East Coast festivals including Future Forest and Evolve.

Adam's Gear: Elektron Tonverk, Future Retro FR-777, PLAYdifferently MODEL 1.4 mixer, Benidub Digital Echo

Dan's Gear: Custom modular synth rig with Oxi One controller, Perkons HD-01 drum machine

------

Ashtronic (Ashton Wisener) is a life-long vinyl collector, producer, improviser and classically-trained pianist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Ashtronic’s live sets hinge heavily on 909 workout drums and fusion record sampling, combining both 4 on the floor beats with broken beat electro grooves. His use of live keyboards is always a fan favorite and is inspired by years of session work and live performances.

In his productions, he combines classical prepared piano techniques with raw hypnoticism and has released music on Brutal Spirit (Berlin), Groovers Ball (LA) and Phaaser (Nashville).

Gear used: Sequential Fourm synth, Yamaha YC61 keyboard, Behringer Rd-9 drum machine, Ableton Live 12
