Grof® Breathwork is a powerful, experiential method for self-exploration and inner work. The method was developed by Stanislav and Christina Grof and draws on ancient wisdom traditions, depth psychology, transpersonal psychology, and modern consciousness research.
A combination of accelerated breathing, evocative music, and a specific form of energy-releasing bodywork opens the way into a holotropic state of consciousness. This state provides access to the mind and body’s inherent capacity for deep healing. Holotropic means “moving toward wholeness.” The structure of the workshop provides the time, safety, and supportive environment needed for this inner healing capacity to unfold.
Each day includes a breathwork session of approximately three hours. Participants work in pairs. On one day, you will be the “Breather” (the person actively breathing), and on the other day, the “Sitter” (the person holding a safe and supportive presence). As a Sitter, your main role is simply to be present, and many find this experience just as meaningful as breathing themselves. This creates a safe and supportive setting in which everyone both gives and receives support. The breathwork sessions are followed by mandala drawing/painting and a sharing circle to support integration and the sharing of experiences.
The facilitator and assistant facilitators are present throughout the entire process and support participants whenever additional assistance is needed.
