About this Event
This class will focus on building coldworking skills from the basics to the next level of efficiency and quality. Whether it be finishing pieces from the hot or kiln studios or creating works entirely within the cold shop, students will learn how to integrate multiple tools for maximum effect. We will utilize the entire cold shop and focus on common mistakes and trouble shooting. We will work through multiple projects designed to guide students through every cold process from rough grind to high polish. Students should expect to leave with samples and the strategies to finish more complex pieces independently with confidence.
What to Expect: Students can expect to watch a number of demonstrations and have time to practice coldworking on three objects using different techniques. Tools and materials will be provided. The cold shop equipment can be loud, and all equipment is water fed. Students should wear waterproof shoes, an apron, safety glasses, and ear protection are provided. Clean-up time is included in the duration of class, and usually the last 20 minutes of class are dedicated to cleaning your workstation. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 12 and up.
We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at [email protected] if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
