NOAA’s Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary (GRNMS) Advisory Council will hold its quarterly fall meeting on Nov. 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4:05 p.m. (EST). The meeting will be held at the GRNMS Ocean Discovery Center at 340 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Savannah, Georgia. The public is invited to attend in-person, or remotely through the following GoToWebinar web link: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/3298453977862633055.
Key agenda items include an overview of the official Request For Information (RFI) published in the Federal Register in early November, inviting public comment on preliminary goals and objectives for GRNMS management over the next 10 years and any other recommendations regarding future management of the sanctuary. The superintendent will give a presentation about the RFI process identical to those delivered at multiple November public listening sessions from Brunswick, GA to Conway, SC. The council’s Executive Committee will report its findings on whether any Sanctuary Advisory Council (SAC) recommendations submitted since 2014 require amendment due to new conditions or needs within the sanctuary. The council may take action to submit recommendations to NOAA in response to the RFI. The council will set its quarterly meeting schedule for 2027, and will receive program and administrative updates from the superintendent.
A public comment period is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to address the council should join the meeting no later than 1:30 p.m. in the event the meeting progresses quickly and the public comment segment occurs earlier than scheduled. All agenda times are estimates and subject to adjustment. The public is encouraged to review the meeting agenda and contact any council member to discuss or provide comments on agenda items, or any other subject of interest concerning the marine sanctuary. For any major action by the council, the chair may offer, at their discretion, an opportunity for public comment prior to any final council vote or general consent motion.
Please note, the meeting will be audio recorded (including the public comment section) to aid preparation of a meeting summary. All public comments received will be included in the written meeting summary, will be public, and will be maintained by the sanctuary as part of its administrative record. If you are providing a public comment, please do not include any personally identifiable information beyond your name. If you do not want to be recorded, please contact [email protected].
