As we prepare to begin Thanksgiving week, I want to do something a little different and very special for ALL of District 2!
I’m opening my home and inviting my neighbors to gather beneath the beautiful oak trees for an afternoon of food, fellowship, fun activities, giving back, and simply being grateful for one another and the wonderful community we are blessed to call home.
And when I say ALL of District 2, I mean just that! Whether we agree on every issue or find ourselves on opposite sides of the aisle, I want everyone to feel welcome.
I have so much to be thankful for, and one of my greatest blessings is the opportunity to serve you.
Some of you know my story. I’ve been the underdog more than once in my life, and perhaps that’s one of the reasons it means so much to me that every person feels heard, valued, and respected.
We may not always agree, and that’s okay! I genuinely love serving this community, helping others, and finding ways to make a difference. I listen, I research, I pray, and I try my very best to lead with my heart.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers, and I know I won’t always make everyone happy. But I hope you always know that I care, that I listen, and that your voice matters to me.
And I want you to know how truly thankful I am for each and every one of you.
This afternoon isn’t about politics, Council meetings, or the things that divide us. It’s about the things that bring us together like kindness, friendship, generosity, gratitude, and our shared love for Summerville.
Sometimes I think we all need an opportunity to put aside the issues of the day, slow down, break bread, enjoy a conversation, and remember that we have far more in common than we sometimes realize.
And what better time to do that than as we begin Thanksgiving week?
❤️ A SPECIAL GUEST & AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE BACK
I’m especially honored to welcome Liz Milligan of The Magdalene House as our featured guest of honor.
The Magdalene House has a recovery home for women right here in District 2, and its mission is one that deserves our attention.
As we reflect on October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month and enter this season of Thanksgiving, I think it’s especially important to remember the women in our community who are working to overcome difficult circumstances, rebuild their lives, and find hope for a brighter future.
🍁 WHAT TO EXPECT UNDER THE OAKS
We’ll have food, seasonal activities for you to take home, opportunities to share what we’re thankful for, a chance to give back, and plenty of good old fashioned face to face fellowship.
And because this gathering is my personal way of saying THANK YOU, I’ll have a little gift of appreciation for each guest, something from my heart to yours.
We’ll gather beneath the oaks during those beautiful golden hours of the afternoon, enjoy the fall season, and kick off Thanksgiving week surrounded by neighbors, friends, and hopefully some new friendships!
No agendas. No politics. No debates.
Just good food, good company, grateful hearts, and the opportunity to enjoy one another.
Whether we’ve known each other for years, have met only briefly, have disagreed on an issue, or have yet to meet at all, I truly hope you’ll come.
I’m not inviting you to Town Hall or to another meeting. I’m welcoming you into my home.
Because at the end of the day, we don’t have to agree on everything to be grateful for our community and for one another.
And I can’t think of a better way to begin Thanksgiving week than together, beneath the oaks, with grateful hearts. ❤️
