✨ Grateful Solstice brings our community together for a night of live music, dancing, and shared appreciation for the songs that shaped generations.
The Might As Well Band is a Sonoma County collective celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead, the Jerry Garcia songbook with an adventurous, live-first approach. With deep grooves, open-ended jams, rich vocal harmonies, and plenty of room for improvisation, The Might As Well Band favors feel and spontaneity over imitation. At the heart of it is the same thing that has kept this music alive for generations: good songs, good players, and the unpredictable magic that happens when everyone is listening.
🎶 Featured Artists
Jon Chi's musical accomplishments and lists of collaborations are extensive. Formerly the band leader for jam band Rainmaker, Jon has worked with the likes of Mickey Hart, Dave Schools of Widespread Panic, members of Little Feat and countless others in his successful career. He can now regularly be found playing with his original group The Pacific Syndicate as well as with a who's who list of bay area musicians. He's shared the stage with Grahame Lesh, Stu Allen, Joe Marcinek, Bella Rayne just to name a few.
Anna Elva brings an unmistakable combination of groove, energy, and musical intuition to the stage. Often called "The Dancing Drummer, Anna is a longtime fixture in the Northern California jam scene, she has performed with Stu Allen & Mars Hotel, Mark Karan’s Buds, Reed Mathis, Scott Guberman, Joe Craven, Marcus Rezak, Jon Chi & the Pacific Syndicate, and many others.
Steve Pile became a regular performer at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads, sharing the stage with Lesh and collaborating with musicians including Reed Mathis, Jason Crosby, and Mookie Siegel. His music is grounded in the storytelling tradition of writers like John Prine and James Taylor, while his years studying and performing in West Africa bring a rhythmic, melodic character all his own.
Stephanie Salva is unforgettable. A longtime presence in the North Bay music scene, she leads the American roots project Tumbleweed Soul and has performed with Zero, Stu Allen, Greg Anton, Melvin Seals, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, and The Rock Collection among many other outfits. Whether fronting a roots band or stretching out with some of the Bay Area’s finest improvisational players, Salva brings warmth, grit, and unmistakable soul to every performance.
Sonoma County bassist Matt Petruska brings a deep love of New Orleans funk, classic soul, Americana, and improvisational music to everything he plays. For more than two decades, he has performed with Second Line, Travelin’ Soul, Flowstone, and The Might As Well Band. Petruska’s playing draws heavily from the deep-pocket traditions of players like Duck Dunn and James Jamerson, alongside the infectious rhythms of The Meters and Neville Brothers, an approach built around groove, feel, and serving the song.
Sam Betty is known as much for his powerful, expressive vocals as his piano and organ playing. A member of Flowstone and The Might As Well Band, he has also performed and collaborated with Mark Karan, Scott Guberman, Pete Sawyer, Anna Elva, Tim Baker, Todd Bugbee's Dead Roses, and a wide circle of Northern California musicians. His music is grounded in strong songs, vocal interplay, groove, and the spontaneity of musicians listening closely to one another.
