Michigan Mandolin Orchestra Christmas ConcertDoors - 6:30
Concert - 7:00
Tickets - suggested $20 donation at door
Led by Brian Oberlin, the Michigan Mandolin Orchestra has been bringing its eclectic sound to venues across Michigan since 2019. Based in Grand Rapids, and playing the Fountain St. Church for the first time, the MMO will play an incredibly diverse lineup at this Christmas Concert. One of the highlights of the concert are the Polish Dances by Tomasz Kiesewetter, made famous by the GER Mandolin Orchestra. More selections include two holiday ear-worms by Leroy Anderson Sleigh Ride and Christmas Festival; a gently swinging arrangement of Vince Guaraldi’s Christmas Time is Here with Oberlin as the soloist; two pieces written by in-house composer and orchestra luminary Bob Phillips and the theme from Antonin Dvorak’s 9th Symphony. Rounding out every concert are selections featuring Oberlin and a few members of the group playing chamber pieces. The orchestra’s 17 members are professional musicians, music teachers, arrangers, composers, and musical hobbyists. They perform their music on mandolins, mandolas, octave mandolins, mandocellos, guitars and contrabass.
