Grand Olde Route Of York Hiking TrailA grand name. A grand setting. And some seriously good trails.
Welcome to the Grand Olde Route of York, a fast, flat hiking trail adventure through the magnificent Escrick Estate and the wild landscapes of Skipwith Common National Nature Reserve.
Choose between the Half Marathon (21k) and 10k, with mile after mile of solid gravel tracks and hard-packed trails creating a smooth, flowing course that's made for walking.
Walk among Giants
Head deep into the estate woodland where towering Redwoods rise above the trails. Long woodland tracks, huge trees and very little elevation.
Into the wild
The route continues onto Skipwith Common, a National Nature Reserve where things get a little wilder.
Hike across open heathland and through woodland where Longhorn cattle roam freely, grazing the Common as part of its conservation. Keep your eyes open for deer and other wildlife along the way.
There's history beneath your feet too. The Common has been shaped by people for thousands of years and was once home to a Second World War RAF airfield, traces of which can still be found across the landscape today.
21k or 10k. You decide!
Take on the Half Marathon adventure or go for the shorter 10k.
Whichever distance you choose, expect a hike through one of Yorkshire's most distinctive landscapes.
Giant trees. Roaming cattle.
