Step into history and nature at Government House Adelaide!On Sunday, 12 October 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm, explore Government House and its gardens, enjoy family-friendly activities, and take part in interactive events as part of South Australia’s Nature Festival.
Discover Government House Adelaide, the oldest Government House in Australia, and learn about its history and role as the official residence of South Australia’s Governors.
Friends of the Botanic Gardens will lead tours of the grounds, highlighting garden evolution, plant symbolism, and preservation efforts.
This year, Open Day features a piece of history: the coffin plate of Matthew Flinders, presented to the History Trust of South Australia and accepted by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, celebrating Flinders’ legacy in South Australia.
Visitors can also enjoy:
• Governor’s Rose Garden, featuring roses propagated over the past 35 State Governors
• Descendant of the Lone Pine from Gallipoli
• 150-year-old Moreton Bay Fig
• Therapeutic Horticulture Australia marquee, where attendees can contribute to a wreath, participate in Tai Chi sessions, and more.
• Trees for Life - free native plant for visitors to take home.
