Join the Iowa City Swedish Club for an afternoon journey to Gotland, Sweden’s largest island, on Sunday Oct. 18 from 3:30-5 p.m.Jeff Charis-Carlson recently returned from two weeks in Sweden, including a week-long bicycle trip around Gotland. He’ll share a program that is part travelogue, part architectural history, and part family heritage pilgrimage, with photos, video, and music from the journey.
Along the way, we’ll visit some of Gotland’s 100 medieval churches, explore the island’s landscape and history, and stop in Hemse, where Jeff’s grandmother was born and where his family left a small remembrance of his father, who never had the opportunity to visit Sweden.
We’ll begin at 3:30 p.m. with coffee, ice cream, and treats, followed by the program at 4, with time to visit.
