Contact the trip leader by Thursday 3 December if attending.GWRC officially took ownership of Gollan’s Valley Station, south of East Harbour Regional Park, last year and it is not currently open to the public. We will meet at the southern end of Muritai Road by the cycle hire shop at 9:30am, where park ranger Robert Ashe will give a briefing. Then we will drive in convey (possibly carpooling, depending on numbers) to the homestead. From there we will walk up a farm vehicle track on Hornes Ridge and on to the summit of Mount Cameron. We will return via the same route so people can set their own pace but note that there is initially a 20 minute climb of 80 metres in elevation through farmland to reach the native forest and the locked gate means we may have to leave as a group.
Highlights include areas of beech forest, podocarps, regionally uncommon species including Azorella hookeri, and great views across Wellington harbour and the wetlands to the south.
Meet: southern end of Muritai Road by the cycle hire shop at 9:30am.
