About this Event

From Weds 11 Feb to Thurs 16 Apr, schools are invited to discover the work of Paper Tiger Television in their first UK exhibition, , at Goldsmiths CCA.

Paper Tiger Television are a US-based collective that focuses on the production and distribution of public access television programmes and media. Founded in 1981, the collective emerged from a period when the political energies and optimism of the 1960s met the possibilities of newly accessible video technologies. For more than four decades, Paper Tiger Television have been critiquing corporate control of the communications industry through all forms of media (news, advertising, magazines, internet), and produced a radical and DIY alternative, which aimed to significantly increase media literacy amongst audiences. The exhibition will feature around 40 programmes, as well as handmade backdrops, graphic publications, and archival material.

We will be continuing our format of a two-part workshop. Schools are able to sign up for one, or both sessions (recommended).

Session 1: Delivered at your school. Through viewing films of Paper Tiger Television and news reports, followed by class reflection and discussion, students will strengthen their media literacy skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of how to question and understand media. They will then collage their own fabricated news based articles and 'zines, with encouragement to be as creative as possible.

The workshops will be led by the CCA's Education Team. Sessions are able to be tailored to align with student's key stage. Sessions have been designed in collaboration with Paper Tiger Television, as well as MFA Curating students, Christina Purvis, Charlotte Kaczmarek, and Eve O'Connor as part of Goldsmiths CCA’s collaboration with the MFA Curating course.
The Galleries are wheelchair accessible. If you would like to request assistance, or discuss access, please get in touch. To share feedback, subscribe for updates, or for any questions you may have, please email our Engagement Producer, Adrianna Whittingham at [email protected].
