About Jade Maze:

Jade Maze mixes soul, jazz, blues and pop into one big heart-filled voice. From the first note, you know she is singing about lived experiences. She started out with soul and jazz bands on the West Coast, toured with her original band on the East Coast, and made Chicago her home in the mid-90s, where she foraged her way onto the blues and jazz scenes. Jade loves the intimacy of duo work as well, especially with guitar, bass, or piano. Her CD My Favorite Color is Blue features Brother John (piano/guitar) and John “Boom” Brumbach (saxophone) to name a few.

Jade also happens to be an award-winning author. Her debut memoir, Walk Until Sunrise, took a first-place world literary prize (Rome), and the follow-up memoir entitled Mercy’s View: Blackout won a 2025 Best Book Pinnacle Achievement Award. The memoirs chronicle her teenage runaway experience, her reentry into society, and the beginning stages of her singing career. To offset the intensity of that work, Jade writes short stories where at least one of the story characters is a singer (Music Notes: Tales from an American Singer). They are hilarious!

About Brother John Kattke:

Local legend Brother John Kattke (a.k.a. Brother John) is one of the most talented and versatile musicians on the Chicago music scene today. Performing double duty on both guitar and keyboards, Brother John has been a vital musical component behind some of the blues’ most lauded musicians, including Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor. Through his work with Chicago blues greats Buddy Guy & Otis Rush, he has jammed with Eric Clapton and Steve Miller, auditioned for the Black Crowes (in 1998, but they hired Jimmy Page instead), and acquired ringing endorsements from many other musicians of renown. For example: Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant had seen John play with Otis Rush at the Jazz Café in London. When Plant and Kattke met in person at the United Center in Chicago, Plant told Kattke: “You play a mean guitar!” George Benson came to the jam session that Kattke hosts at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago. After hearing the opening set that John played with his band, Benson told him: “You’re fearless! I thought I was fearless! You’re fearless!”
