Michigan school board members face increasingly complex challenges as they work to improve educational outcomes in their districts. From balancing competing community interests to navigating an ever-changing legal and political landscape, effective school governance requires thoughtful leadership, sound policy, and a clear understanding of the board’s role.To help equip school board members for these challenges, Salt and Light Global, the Leadership Institute, and the Mackinac Center for Public Policy have partnered to offer the Go Local: School Board Training Workshop.
This training will provide practical tools and strategic guidance to help school board members lead effectively while advancing fiscal responsibility, local control, and limited government. Participants will explore key issues including constituent relations, curriculum selection, course-of-study policies, board governance, and other timely education policy matters.
Throughout the workshop, participants will hear from experienced leaders and experts in education, public policy, and school board governance. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage directly with panelists and seasoned school board members who will share practical insights, lessons learned, and strategies drawn from their experience serving their communities.
Whether you are a newly elected board member or an experienced leader looking to strengthen your impact, this workshop will provide valuable perspective, practical guidance, and a network of peers committed to effective local leadership.
Breakfast and Lunch will be provided.Registration is $20 per person. Seating is limited.
