Join the Sligo Bay Catchment Rivers Trust for a community Himalayan balsam removal day in the beautiful Glencar Valley.
Himalayan balsam is one of Ireland's most widespread invasive plant species. It spreads rapidly along rivers and streams, outcompeting native vegetation and leaving riverbanks vulnerable to erosion when it dies back each winter. By removing balsam before it sets seed, we can help protect local biodiversity, improve river habitats and reduce its spread throughout the catchment.
Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. No previous experience is necessary, and all equipment, training and guidance will be provided on the day.
Meeting Point: ATU Sligo Car Park
Date: Saturday 18th July
Meeting Time: 10:00am
Finish Time: 2:00pm
We will carpool from the ATU to the work site in Glencar.
Please bring:
- Sturdy footwear or wellies
- Suitable outdoor clothing
- Waterproofs if rain is forecast
- A refillable water bottle
As always, refreshments, tea, coffee and a few treats will be provided throughout the day.
