About this Event
Hands-On Portrait Photography with Jake Collins of Westcott
Take control of any lighting situation and learn how to make off-camera flash and natural light work together.
Join Westcott’s Jake Collins in the High Tide room at The Collective for an interactive, hands-on class featuring a live model. Jake will break down the fundamentals of mixed lighting—from reading and controlling available light to adding flash for shape, dimension, and impact.
Watch as Jake builds lighting setups step by step, explaining not just what he’s doing, but why. You’ll learn how to balance ambient exposure with flash, position and modify your light, and make quick adjustments as conditions change.
Whether you’re photographing portraits, events, weddings, or environmental scenes, you’ll leave with practical techniques you can put to work on your very next shoot.
You’ll learn how to:
- Balance off-camera flash with existing natural light
- Control ambient exposure while shaping your subject with flash
- Position and modify light for more flattering, dimensional portraits
- Adapt your setup as lighting conditions change
- Build simple, repeatable lighting setups you can use anywhere
Bring your camera and come ready to shoot!
