This is a private beginner glass flameworking (small-scale glass blowing) solid sculpture class in the Glass Shop at Technocopia.
About this Event

***PLEASE NOTE: the date and time for this private class will need to be confirmed directly with Molly Jackson. Other dates and times (other than listed times) are available to be scheduled. Use the contact form on Technocopia.org to confirm or schedule your class. https://technocopia.org/contact-us/

Flameworking is an old-world technique that sculpts glass using gravity and the flame of a bench torch. What to expect: students will receive an introduction to tools, materials, safety training and shop etiquette. Instructional demonstration and supervised hands-on torch time will teach fundamental techniques of manipulating borosilicate (hard) glass.

Focus on completing projects in this one-day progressive and educational journey. (A skill-building one day course, 6 hours total)

Are you fascinated by glass, flames and gravity? Do you want to acquire a new skill, find or reclaim your creativity? Use this expressive, ancient process to shape molten glass with a bench torch to create small solid sculpture. Demonstration, personal instruction and hours of hands-on torch time will be offered at your own pace. All levels are welcome and will be able to complete projects during this class.

Your creations will be annealed in a kiln overnight and can be taken home the next day.

The morning session: (10am-1pm) Orientation, safety, simple techniques, making basic shapes with the flame and tools.

Lunch break: (1-1:30pm)

The afternoon session: (1:30-4:30pm) Hands-on torch time turning those shapes into solid sculpture projects: tiny animal friends, ornaments, Murano-style hard candies, mushrooms and more.

Closed-toe shoes and natural fiber clothing are required.

About This Instructor

Molly Jackson is Technocopia’s Glass Shop steward and instructor since 2013. She studied Flameworking under Sally Prasch at The Worcester Center for Crafts. Since 2003 her glass jewelry has been featured in international and domestic magazines (Vogues, Women’s Wear Daily, Harper's Bazaar, Glass Quarterly, Modern Bride and many more), runways from Manhattan’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to Osaka, Japan, celebrities (Britney Spears, Ozzy Osborn and more) and sold in boutiques around the globe. 2015 brought her into a new venture of glass sculpture and installations where her pieces were accepted into the “Now! New Works, New Artists” exhibit. Molly's artist residency (2025/2026) at Eagle Hill School as the S.T.A.R artist included building a new flameworking facility, instruction, and a solo gallery show.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Molly Jackson's current style of working with hot glass is spontaneous and improvisational. "I follow what the glass wants to do. I work with the way it cracks, breaks, and bends. While the glass is in the flame I search for the lines, shape, and form that will best facilitate light and color to flow through the glass giving it natural rhythm and movement."

Since 2003 Molly Jackson glass jewelry and sculpture has been featured worldwide: boutiques, magazines, high-fashion runways, musicians and celebrities. Recently she has begun designing a new line of glass housewares.

She has taught locally at Worcester Center for Crafts, New Street Glass, and Snow Farm. Presently she is teaching at Technocopia Makerspace in Worcester, MA, where she has been the Glass Shop Steward and Instructor for over 10 years.
