Rev up your engines! A Girl Scout Race Car Derby is happening in Loveland! It's an exhilarating event where creativity, speed, and fun are happening all at the same time! Girls' inner engineer skills will emerge as they design, build, and decorate their own race cars! Simple blocks of wood will turn into sleek racing machines! Cars will zoom down the track with everyone cheering on all of the cars. This event promises a day of innovation and high-speed action with lots of good sportsmanship. Theme will be "Medieval Times."The girls will be divided into their Girl Scout level (Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors) with the top three racers of each level by speed. There will also be other divisions for your family. Non-Girl Scout youth will be divided by groups of ages depending on who registers. Adults (registered and non-registered) will be in their own group. Each car in each group will race in three heats.
There will be six overall design awards voted on by the girls: Best Girl Scout Spirit, Most Artistic, Most Creative Use Of Material, Most Innovative Design, Best Theme Car, and Best Use Of Imagination.
Troop 78449 is sponsoring this event. Cost of event is $15 to register a car which includes building rental, snacks, water, crafts, fun patch, and awards (trophy and/or ribbon). What is not included: wood car, materials to decorate, and weights. Additional family members may attend without registering a car (no cost).
All registered cars must meet the same size and weight requirements. See official rules. Each car must have the name of the racer, troop number, and a fun car name on the bottom.
Best to buy your wooden car base at a local craft store and cut it yourself with a saw or you can buy it pre-cut. But, your car needs to have weights on it in order for it to make it down the track. You can weigh it on a kitchen scale and get as close to five ounces without going over.
Please arrive between 12:30-1 p.m., we will have some crafts at tables before the race starts at 1:30 p.m. Races will end at staggered times based upon who registers at each level. We will start with the younger Girl Scouts and then the older Girl Scouts. Feel free to come in costume and bring SWAPS to trade with other girls to attend!
