With small changes to a few streets, connected active transport routes, and enacting a plan, we can make getting around much easier. We can have less congested roads if other communities can, with options to go places without just jumping in the car and sitting in traffic.

Alison will discuss the importance of physical activity in children’s lives—not only for their physical and mental health, but also for their development, connection to community, independence and resilience. Yet, despite these benefits, motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death and injury among children. Alison will also introduce the Gimme 5 campaign and explain how it aims to make our streets safer for all..
The campaign calls on the state government and candidates to support the establishment of a dedicated funding stream for the building and development of the Stratagic Cycling Corridor network in Victoria.
We know that footpaths are not always safe places for children, and that as children in Victoria age out of being able to use footpaths and move onto our roads, they need safer spaces both on local roads and to make longer trips as they head to secondary schools, part time jobs, sporting and entertainment venues etc .
Strategic Cycling Corridors are just one part of that puzzle, but we believe dedicated funding so that a connected network can be developed in a timely manner is an important first step!
