About this Event
Share local stories, meet election candidates & hear about what you can do for happy healthy communities & the Gimme 5! campaign
We know Victorians want more opportunities to move around by bike; its cheaper, important to our communities, for their physical and mental health, connection to community, independence and resilience.
And yet, the number of people who feel safe choosing active travel for their local trips gets lower every decade.
Join this community meeting with locals and communityorganisations concerned about diminishing opportunities for people, and especially families and kids, to choose active transport to get around in Ballarat.
Youth mental health is facing a well documented decline, and the number one killer and cause of injuries in our children is a crash involving a motor vehicle. But creating streets and spaces that suport active transport in Victoria remains sporadic and opportunistic.
Community members, parents and families from across the electorates of Wendouree and Ballarat will share their stories. Candidates in the state election are invited to attend and listen and will be provided a brief opportunity to respond.
The campaign calls on the state government and candidates to support the establishment of a dedicated funding stream for the building and development of the Stratagic Cycling Corridor network in Victoria.
Strategic Cycling Corridors are just one part of that puzzle, but we believe dedicated funding so that a connected network can be developed in a timely manner is an important first step!
Use this handy link to send a quick email to your local candidates. It only takes 2 mins!
