GILES COREY
First released in 2011, the self-titled Giles Corey album began with a simple constraint: acoustic instruments only. That boundary opened into something much larger—guitar, piano, ghostly choirs, heavy organ, field recordings, and sudden walls of sound arranged around an intimate singer-songwriter core.
The songs move through depression, death, history, and the paranormal without treating any of them as distant ideas. Quiet desperation gives way to cathartic outburst; private confession becomes communal release. The album and its accompanying book have since gathered a fervent following, often described by listeners in the language of ritual or religious experience.
For the 2026–27 live set, Barrett brings that tension to the stage: stark voice and acoustic instruments, unstable electronics, and arrangements built to move from a whisper to physical impact.

KATHRYN MOHR
Bay Area musician Kathryn Mohr makes skeletal, haunting songs where sparse acoustic guitar, icy synths, ghostly field recordings, and delicate vocals create an atmosphere of profound isolation. Her work has long explored illness, death, pain, and the darker corners of the psyche through cryptic, imagistic songwriting, but her latest album, Carve, pushes that sound into harsher territory. Recorded in the remote Mojave Desert, the album pairs Mohr’s stark intimacy with fuzzed-out production, dissonance, and doom-influenced sludge, giving her music a newly confrontational edge.
Across Carve, tracks like “Angle of Repose,” “Cells,” and “Property” find Mohr unleashing a bellowing intensity rarely heard in her earlier work, while instrumental pieces deepen the record’s uneasy, otherworldly atmosphere. Though desolation remains central to her music, Carve reveals a defiant streak beneath the darkness—a search for some distant point of light worth straining toward.

VAL ACTON LOPER
Philadelphia-based experimental musician Val Acton Loper works across ambient, drone, noise, and electronic music, creating dense, unsettling soundscapes from feedback, field recordings, looping textures, and distorted electronics. His music often balances beauty and abrasion, allowing eerie atmosphere and dissonance to coexist without settling into a single genre or mood. Recent releases including GUILT IN SUSTAINED HAPPINESS and Birthday Boy expand on this approach, moving between hypnotic drones, warped electronics, and more structured compositions.
Loper’s work feels immersive and disorienting, drawing listeners into strange, dreamlike spaces where small sounds can become overwhelming and familiar textures take on an uncanny quality. Across his recordings, he embraces experimentation as a means of exploring both the delicate and abrasive sides of sound, building music that is as atmospheric as it is unpredictable.
